Byrd is Teacher of Year

Elaine Raby Byrd, a kindergarten teacher at Chimney rock Elementary, was recently named by the Bartlett area Sam's Club as Teacher of the Year.

Byrd and principal Daphine Swift were presented with a giant $1,000 check, to be used at the school, by Jason M. Heg, membership assistant manager at the Bartlett-area Sam's Club. Byrd also received a cake and a personal gift card.

During the reception, Heg spoke about Byrd's commitment to her school, students and parents.

Parents who voted for her for this honor spoke about her dedication and willingness to work late hours for tutoring and after-school help.

Byrd thanked the entire school community for their support and extended a special thanks to her mother, Dr. Elaine Raby, an SCS instructional coach, for "all those wonderful teaching tips that have guided (her) along the way," and to her father, Willie Raby of Germantown High School, for his strong "personal support."
